Melat Miranda-Ramirez is a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, pursuing a BFA in Painting. Her work explores Black womanhood through themes of rest, care, memory, identity, and visibility. Drawing from personal experiences of hair braiding, family, and cultural memory, Miranda-Ramirez uses portraiture, pattern, layering, and quilt-inspired imagery to create intimate spaces that center Black women’s experiences. Her work considers rest and self-care as forms of presence, dignity, and self-definition.
